Carolyn Rogero Mettelmann passed away peacefully after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer, on July 3, 2026, at the age of 77, in Folsom, California, with her beloved daughter and son-in-law at her bedside.

Born at US Naval Base Trinidad, on an island in the southern Caribbean, Carolyn was the eldest daughter of Berchman and Eva Rogero. As a military family, they were relocated up and down the east coast from Maryland to Florida, as well as two moves to California; once to Hayward and once to Naval Air Station Point Mugu. Carolyn graduated from Mount Eden High School in Hayward and remained in the Bay Area when her family was transferred back to Florida. She attended and graduated from California State University, in Hayward, where in a sociology class, she met and fell in love with her future husband, Michael (Mike) Mettelmann. After college, Carolyn began her career in Occupational Therapy but in the late 1970s, transitioned to Real Estate. Those who knew Carolyn best would agree that she never met a stranger and that she possessed an unwavering desire to help others. A career in Real Estate was the perfect fit for her; she loved and excelled in it! She proudly served Sheffield Village, San Leandro, Berkeley, Oakland, and Castro Valley. She was a Cal-Vet and Certified Residential Specialist. She served as a director for the California Association of Realtors and as a member of several Bay East Association of Realtor committees. She was a strong advocate for both the buyers and the sellers she represented. In 2022, after nearly 50 years in the business, she retired.

In 2013, Carolyn and Mike left the Bay Area and moved to Folsom, where they transformed every space in their yard to produce stunning flowers, vegetables and fruit. Their backyard was a beautiful and picturesque oasis! Carolyn participated in the Folsom Garden Club, won ribbons for her prized African Violets at state and county fairs, and served as president of her homeowner's association. In 2016, she and Mike became “Nonna” and “Poppa Mike”, welcoming their first grandson, followed by their second grandson in 2018. Carolyn adored them and coveted her role as grandmother, doling out hugs and kisses to the boys who loved her beyond measure. She enjoyed serving as the “garden grandmother” at their school, where she taught lessons in planting and cultivating. She attended their school functions, sports’ practices, and games. She also enjoyed taking them on little local adventures, including many trips to Chick Fil-A. In 2023, after more than 50 years of marriage, Carolyn lost her beloved husband and traveling companion, Mike. Since she had always enjoyed seeing new places, she tried solo travel and found that it worked for her. She took a cruise to Alaska and traveled to Europe where she visited some of her mother's Italian family. She went East several times to visit her siblings and attended the weddings of a niece, and later, of a nephew. On one trip to Florida, she learned to play the game Rummikub. As a result, she became a regular at the Folsom Senior Center, where she made many new friends who also enjoyed the game and the competition.

Carolyn had the most infectious spirit! She was fiercely loving, compassionate, inquisitive, faithful, and always worked to see the positive, no matter the circumstances. She is survived by her daughter, Katharine Frias (Eric) of El Dorado Hills, her beloved grandsons: Giovanni and Christian, her sisters: Theresa Ferlisi of

Florida, Jean Edgerly (Brad) of New Hampshire, Mary Robinson (David) of Florida and her brother, Gene Rogero (Debbie) of South Carolina. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. All who knew and loved Carolyn are invited to join her family at her service at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, July 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM where she will be inurned alongside her husband Mike.
