On Monday, January 16, 2023, surrounded by the love of so many, our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Carl Gilbert Britto, crossed over into the Kingdom of Heaven.
We gather to celebrate not only his life, but also the love and generosity that he imparted to all of us.
George "Gilbert" & Maradene Britto welcomed their baby boy into the world on March 10, 1941 in Oakland, CA. And soon enough, their home was filled with the synergy that three siblings - John, Gilbert & Mark - brought.
Those rough and tumble years on Adason Drive in San Leandro, were filled with the experiences that shaped the wonderful man Carl was to become.
Eleven years as a Boy Scout taught Carl the principles upon which he built his character - trustworthiness, loyalty, helpfulness, friendliness, courtesy, kindness, obedience, cheerfulness, & bravery,
His life-long faith in a higher power was nurtured during his years serving as an altar boy at St. John's Catholic Church.
Before graduating from San Leandro High School in 1959, Carl's participation in the chess club gave rise to his love of strategy and planning. He also developed a taste for self-improvement within the Junior Achievement management program.
At San Jose State University, Carl explored his artistic side through forensic photography - and thus, he began passionately documenting the special moments in the lives of family, friends and the great outdoors throughout the remainder of his life.
International travel was next on his plate with his enlistment in the US Army's Pharmacy Program. While stationed in Paris, Carl discovered his professional purpose in pharmacy. But just as importantly, he caught the wanderlust bug - a grand sense of adventure!
Once back on American soil, Carl put his skills into practice! He enrolled in the University of the Pacific's School of Pharmacy, & in 1966, Carl married his lovely bride, Margaret "Margie" Ann Britto, after winning her hand in a strategic game of chess!
Two bustling years later, Carl earned a Bachelors of Pharmacy at UOP and quickly began his profession practicing for Long's Drugs Store. This kicked off a 42 year long career of meaning and purpose for Carl which took him from pharmacist, to manager to supervisor of pharmacy information technology and too many committees to name!
In the 1970's, Carl and Margie welcomed their children, Michele and Daniel Britto, into their lives, showering them with love and opportunity. And years later, grandchildren Kyra and Ryan Britto were welcomed with just as much affection and support, if not more!
Carl finally assented to retirement in 2006 with the carrot of world travel dangled before him. For the next decade of his life, Carl shared his excitement and the wonders of the world with hiswife, children, grandchildren, family & friends.
Dad, not a day of our lives will go by where we are not influenced by your cheerfulness, positivity, kindness, and purpose of action.
We LOVE you!
You'll never be forgotten...
In lieu of flowers, please perform a random act of kindness towards a stranger each and every day, in Dad's honor.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Grissom’s Cremation & Burial Centers.
