Calvin Roy Tennyson was born on September 1, 1947, in San Francisco, California, to John Henry Tennyson and Beatrice Gordon Tennyson. Raised in a loving, faith-centered home, Calvin accepted God at an early age and grew up worshiping at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, where he remained a devoted member well into his later years.
Calvin attended Woodrow Wilson High School and grew up in the vibrant San Francisco community, where he formed lifelong friendships—including a childhood bond with O.J. Simpson. Their early lives were later featured in the 2016 documentary O.J.: Made in America, where Calvin shared memories from their youth.
On April 12, 1968, Calvin married Juanita Young, and to their union two sons were born: Kevin Duane and Karl Ramone.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Henry Tennyson Jr. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his sons, Kevin Tennyson (Sheila) and Karl Tennyson; his grandson, Kevari Tennyson; his sisters Leatrice Oliver and Joan Breazell; along with a niece, several nephews, cousins, and a host of extended family and friends.
His life, legacy, and love will continue to shine through all who knew him.
Matthew 11:28–30
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
