Alvaro “Vato” Lizama entered into rest on April 25, 2025.  He was 50 years old.

Born in Oakland on April 4, 1975, Alvaro attended St. Elizabeth’s school prior to graduating from San Lorenzo High School in 1993.  He continued his education at Chabot College, attending their fire academy.  Alvaro’s path led him to volunteer with Alameda County’s Fire Department before his first position with Hayward Fire.  His career flourished when he joined Oakland Fire and worked to become a paramedic firefighter. Alvaro dedicated 21 years to his career prior to his retirement in 2023. 

In 2004, Alvaro met the love of his life, Alicia and they were married shortly after in 2005.  They lived in Dublin where they were blessed with their beloved daughters and eventually made their home in Danville.   Alvaro was a committed father and husband.  He took great pride in his family and enjoyed participating with his girls in Girl Scouts, traveling, cooking and watching countless episodes of The Office.  When not with his family or working, Alvaro was a member of the Oakland Bomberos and enjoyed attending heavy metal concerts… he was known to still have t-shirts from concerts he attended several decades ago!

Alvaro was a kind and caring person whose subdued presence will be deeply missed.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 20 years, Alicia Lizama; daughters, Daniella and Ayva; parents, Josie and Rudy Molina; sister, Cindy Erwin; and many cherished extended family and loving friends. He was preceded by his sister, Ceci Molina.

Family, friends and fellow service members are invited to gather for the Mass of Christian Burial and Bell Ringing Ceremony at 10 am on Monday, May 5, 2025 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. Internment will be private.
