Leonard “Pops” Willis Craig, entered peacefully into rest at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley on July 9, 2019, at the age of 93.
He was born April 15, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas to parents Joseph and Margaret Craig.
After honorably serving in the US ARMY, Leonard received medals of service in, European, African and Middle Eastern Campari, good conduct and WWII Victory and drove in the "Red Ball Express"under General George S. Patton. Leonard worked for over 27 years as a butcher and truck driver for Swift & Co. His hobbies were fixing cars and was known as a Semi-Pro Golden Gloves prized fighter and a Teamster Long-Lines Truck Driver.
He is survived by his children, Lynnette Johnson, Lynn Craig and her husband Ron and Leonard T. Craig; grandchildren, Deshawn Brown, Daniel & Derrell Johnson, Danielle Brown, Lynard Craig and Darren Williams; great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Liberty, Jayce, LeAnne, LeAngelo, Semeer and a new God blessing to the family arriving September 2019; and sister-in-law, Buelah Craig.
Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Eleanor B. Craig in 1999; parents Joseph and Margaret Craig; siblings, Frank, Eulah, Margaret, Bryant and Retha; and great-grandson, Darryl "DJ"Jazz
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 beginning with a visitation From 10:00AM - 11:00AM. Chapel service will begin at 11:00AM at Grissom's Chapel and Mortuary 267 E. Lewelling Blvd. San Lorenzo, CA 94580. Burial will follow at Alta Mesa Memorial Park 695 Arastradero Rd. Palo Alto, CA 94306.
