Edwin Joseph Fisch entered peacefully into rest at home in Castro Valley, California on August 6, 2019. He was 96 years old.
Born January 18, 1923 in Sigourney, Iowa to parents John Matthias Fisch and Rosalie Margarite Ott, Edwin graduated from the University of Iowa with a BS in chemical engineering. He went on to work as a chemical engineer for Shell Oil for over 40 years. While at Shell, he worked on the Sulfinol Process, which removes sulfur from high-sulfur fuels to make them cleaner-burning. Beyond work, he enjoyed photography, bird watching, and woodworking, and was an expert handyman.
Ed is survived by his wife of 71 years, Clara Theresa Fisch; children John Emory Fisch (Castro Valley) and Jennifer Marie Fisch-Lemp (Santa Rosa); grandchildren Jeffrey Scott Fisch, Joseph Michael Fisch, Paul Alan Fisch, Stephanie Clarisse Bjornstrom, and Sarah Marie Lemp; great grandchildren Dylan Scott Fisch, Tyler Alan Fisch, Grace Marie Bjornstrom, Abigail Joy Fisch, Colton James Bjornstrom, and James Michael Fisch; and sister Evelyn Torana Fisch (Bothmer). He was preceded in death by his son Alan Jeffrey Fisch (2014); and sisters Martha Jane Fisch (Hollin) and Monica Rose Fisch (Fern).
Ed was the best of men – truly good, moral, kind and a gentleman. He was loved by all for his gentleness and respected by all for his unwavering faith and strength of character. He will be sorely missed.
Visitation for Ed will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA, with services to begin at 12:00 PM, also at Grissom's. Ed will be laid to rest at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA. Memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Our Lady of Grace Church, Castro Valley.
