Rachel Padilla Morgia passed away on May 11, 2018, in San Ramon, California surrounded by her family. She was 91 years old.
Rachel was born in Manuelitas, Sapello, New Mexico on May 6, 1927. She was the 4th of 7 children blessed to Fulgencio and Erlinda (Bustos) Padilla and the 13th generation of her family born in New Mexico. She attended Douglas School in Las Vegas, Nevada prior to meeting and marrying the love of her life, Fred. They would settle in the Bay Area and raise their 3 children. Rachel was a devoted mother and grandmother who took great pride in her family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining, maintaining family connections and friendships. Rachel was a founding officer for Bohol Circle and a longtime member of the Antequera Association. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
Rachel is survived by her children, Erlinda (Romero Miraflor), Fred (Beverly Balee), Eleanor (Abe Rodriguez), adopted by heart, David Shields (Susan Barrett) and Julia Shields Chaffin; grandchildren, Michael (Lesley), Marco, Miste, Christopher (Sarah), Romero, Carmen Louise (Lance) Powell, Michael, Christopher and Aleyna Raquel Chaffin; great grandchildren Zoe, Lexi, Marco Jr., Symone, Kailani, Gabriella, Sofia, Romero, Gavin and Garrett; sister, Modesta de la Rosa and many cherished extended family and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Fred Ayco Morgia.
Visitation for Rachel will be 5 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Corpus Christi Church, 37968 3rd St., Fremont. The vigil service will begin at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, also at the church. Rachel will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
