Grissom’s Chapel and Mortuary has been a landmark of the San Lorenzo community since 1957. Established by E.J. and Jean Grissom, the original location of the mortuary was on Hesperian Boulevard but due to local expansion, they were forced to move to make room for a freeway onramp. Our location on Lewelling Boulevard opened in 1969 and has served thousands of families with all faiths and beliefs. Even after the death of E.J. in 1980, Jean (affectionately known as “Mrs. G.”) continued on with their dream until her retirement in 1990 when our family purchased the mortuary. To this day, Jean is still in residence at the mortuary and continues to be active with our client families.

Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary was founded on the principals of affordability, integrity and respect. Our family is dedicated to remain one of the few family-owned and operated mortuaries in the East Bay. In 1996 we expanded upon our mission and opened Grissom’s Cremation & Burial Center in San Ramon. Through these locations, we are able to better serve all of our local communities with reasonably priced cremation and traditional services.
